MERIDEN, Conn. (AP) — State police detectives are investigating after a Meriden
police officer shot and killed a man who allegedly charged at him with a
pair of scissors.
The incident occurred after Meriden police responded to a call reporting a disturbance at a Maple Branch home early Saturday. Officers found the man creating a violent disturbance on the second floor of the house before moving to the third floor.
Police claim that the suspect was verbally threatening and suddenly charged at officers armed with the scissors. Police attempted to retreat and one officer tried to use a stun gun that allegedly was ineffective. An officer then fired his firearm, hitting the unnamed suspect. He was pronounced dead at MidState Medical Center.
State police spokesman Lt. J. Paul Vance says the agency will investigate the shooting.
